Kaipara 26th June 1871 Dear Sir, I have just recd your letter dated 10th June Instant regarding Mr. Toles salary abstract. As I have already explained to you, I made no arrangement with him about salary as that is left entirely with you. I suppose he will be satisfied with anything you may decide on. Gillies has become very unpopular in the country and his vindictive carping will, I think in the next assembly be put down to sheer spite. Tole is a thorn in his side and he knows it. However the Kaipara was well looked after in my absence. I suppose the Super will have another rap at the "Telegraph" let him. I shall send you copies of his letters thanking me for work done, fling them in his teeth if he says anything. There is a steamer here which will not pay, there is no trade and she could not take me to places where I wantto go. It will be remembered that the cutter covers all travelling allowance in Kaipara which would otherwise be very heavy in my case. I hope you will find all well at the run. Yours faithfully, J. Rogan
