Monday Mg. 1846 Dear Sir I wrote you last week which with all other Letters and papers I intended to leave with Pohipi at Mimi, but I got as far as Tongaporutu I heard that Waitara and all the Mimi and Tongaporutu people were on their way to Mokau bringing eels for the hui and to wakarongo korero o uta. I returned therefore. Saturday evening Ri hia arrived. Waitara has also been and the Kaka, who is still suffering from the fight I believe all are anxious that the Tapu should be taken off. I urged which W. seconded that messengers should be sent immediately. The Kaka objected only on the ground that his kumera's were not out of the ground, but said they would make all possible haste to get things ready. Tikaokao is going to fetch the Kawhia people. Rihia is off, but he will be able to relate all particulars. I have not received the saw handle yet - Your letter to Mr. Swainson I suppose you wish to be forwarded to him. With Mrs. S's kind regards, Yours very sincerely C. H. Schnackenberg. D. McLean Esq.
