Letter from Donald McLean, Land Commissioner, to the Honble, the Colonial Secretary, dated 12th. August 1850. reporting completion of boundary line of Rangitikei purchase. Whanganui 12th. August 1850. Sir, I have the honor to acquaint you, for the information of His Excellency, the Lieut. Governor, that the Interior boundary line extending from the South bank of the Whanganui to the Whangaehu river, was commenced on the 24th. ulto., and satisfactorily completed on the 10th. inst. At the request of the Chiefs who accompanied Mr. Park and myself on this service, and to save the expense of surveying the "Kaiwaiki" Native Reserve, at the extreme end of the purchase, has been excluded from the Block. Where practicable, the boundary line has been directed along ridges and other prominent features of the country, till it reached the "Makiri Kiri" stream, which forms an excellent natural boundary for several miles. I would suggest that it would be advisable to have this boundary line, and the different Native Reserves within the Block distinctly exhibited on a plan to be furnished to the Government before a Crown Grant is issued to the New Zealand Company.
