[Part of a letter from P. Wilson to Donald McLean Esq. undated, and of which the first part seems to be missing.] M as Chilman did, and in proof of this, by mere conjunct accident, Oky Carrington must needs introduce the copy of his 1846 (but misprinted 1856) certificate, in which little Sammy's name appears as ! Chilman, , got a sore and so could not write in that same paper to overturn the in the letter of Richard Brown, in the Herald of the 15th. inst. But we do trust and hope it will come out on Saturday, and in the following week he will catch it, and no mistake, as well as his compeers Brown and Tommy. We are trying, if I have not already told you, to get up an Institute; and we are to have a meeting to-night anent it. All I look for from it, or about all, is to induce to take to means of amusing themselves, instead of induling in expensive feasting habits, and spending their evenings in public houses; by providing rooms where they may have tea, coffee, a library to refer to, newspapers, etc., to read; and to listen to, occasionally, not lectures on Aristotle's Philosophy and abstract dry engineering, as we last had, - but on useful, entertaining subjects, incidents, say of our own lives, for example; which at least is the bill of fare I propose to prepare for them, and no doubt most refreshing and interesting they will be found. Willie Watt is here with his Brig, the "Venture" from Sydney; and proceeds to Wanganui to-day. I remain my dear Mac, ever faithfully yours (Signed) P. Wilson. To:- Donald McLean Esq.
