. Rangitikei 17th. March 1849 My dear Sir, Mr. Thomas and Ormond have been here with me during the Meeting; which, consisting the animosity existing between the tribes on the Coast, respecting land, and the opposition manifested by a great many to the sale of any, has ended favourably. Mr. Thomas and Ormond go on to Wanganui, and intend getting back to Wellington by the end of next week. If there is any difficulty in procuring surveyors at Wellington, I could procure one from New Plymouth in a very short time, whose services might be required on the Manawatu survey, after this is finished. I remain, my dear Sir, Yours very truly (Signed) Donald McLean. To:- The Honble, The Colonial Secretary Wellington. I only know of one Surveyor in Wellington, who has not got employment, - Mr. Drake. I have known him as a Surveyor for some years, and think he is competent to the work. (Signed) A. Domett. 19th. March 1849.
