Auckland, November 11, 1870. My dear McLean, I forget whether I told you that when the report of the sickness among the Uriwera at Ruatahuna was brought here I recommended that medical aid and comforts should be offerred to these people to show them that as they had ceased to fight we have no malice. As Mr. Vogel approved I requested Moule to send Dr. Armitage from Tauranga, with the necessary supplies, to join Preece's party at Galatea and to give directions to Preece to make an offer of assistance of the people to accept. Armitage was sent immediately but I have no report of the result.
