11 February 1868 Glenorchy My dear Donald I was truly sorry about poor Kate and I was only sorry that I trusted her in the hands of any one. I am almost shure had I drove her myself at the time the horse would not have come down but still I cannot blame poor Twigg as no doubt he was doing to the best of his knowledge. I would have gone all the way down with her to Napier but as the Dr was with her I considered she was in good hands and I trust in providence she will not be long till she is all right again. I feel very much for her but of course it is only one of the lessons this wourld [world] gaves us never to be two shure. I will be down if possible for a few minutes to see you and her in a day or so as I feel so anxious about her and would like to see you before leaving for Wellington. I supose Alex will be home tommorrow. Mr Hector Duff goes down and will be back tommorrow night. Will you send a few lines to girls to say how Kate is and oblige. Your affectionate brother Archibald John McLean
