My dear Sir, I have made a few additions to the closing speech which will I hope meet your approval. If any further alterations are necessary I should like to have them, in order that the Native translation may be printed for the chiefs, Richmond or Weld may have something to suggest Weld sent me a note yesterday saying that the Ministry hoped a vote for the renewal of the conference would be obtained today. As far as the business part of the proceeding go they may be finished this evening and if convenient to your Excellency it would be desirable to close the Conference tomorrow, if the weather permits, if not perhaps Monday will be equally suitable. I expect that a series of practical resolutions will be possed by the Chiefs before the meeting breaks up. 1st. The Queens sovereignty and pledge of their full recognition of it. 2. Disapproval of the King Movement. 3. Justifying the course taken by the Governor with reference to Taranaki. 4. Deprecating Taranaki murders. 5. Thanking the Bishop for the Kohimarama buildings.
