Novr. 21st, 1865. My dear Whitaker, I do not know whether to congratulate you or not upon your accession to the office of Supt. It must have been gratifying to have had such an entirely unanimous election although in a pecuniary point of view it must be a loss to you. I am anxious to know whether you still continue to act professionally and if you do would you undertake to conduct the case of the Wellington debt for us through the Supreme Court. All attempts at a settlement with the Wellington Province has failed and I should like to have the whole question referred to the decision of the Supreme Court. The necessary papers and information will be got up and prepared if you will take the case in hand. I mentioned the matter to T. Russell when he was on his way to the Assembly, before there was any idea of your becoming Supt. and I trust that your holding of that office will not interfere with your acceptance of this duty. I remain, My dear Whitaker, Yours sincerely, (Sd.) Donald McLean.
