Letter from T.G.B. to Donald McLean Esq. dated November 7th. (no date of year) My dear McLean, You will believe how much grieved I was to hear of your severe illness. I lament for you as a friend, and as a Public Officer. Indeed, in the latter capacity your worst enemy will have sense and honesty enough to appreciate your services. We have nothing new here. Everybody hates everybody as usual, but that is not new. At Taranaki they are grumbling steadily about Teira's land; and I have directed Parris to make an advance, if he sees no positive objection, but to await your arrival before he surveys the boundary. I am going on the 28th. to Nelson, to lay the foundation stone of the new College, and intend, D.V. to ride into the Wairau, and return via Waitohi to the Manakau. There is no use in my calling at Taranaki, unless you are there, which is scarcely likely, unless you get well very rapidly. A letter will find me at Nelson, (if directed to await my arrival) on 1st. December. Believe me, yours sincerely (Signed) T.G.B. Nov. 7th.
