Napier 14th Decr., 1876 My dear McLean, If I had known when I wrote you I would stand for the Maraikakaho Riding, if Lyon did not respond to the invitation, that I would be giving so much trouble I would let it alone. I did not know the form of precedure either and it may be my nomination is incomplete. However Shrimpton is a man who will vote the right way and I will have no hesitation or feeling in retiring in his favor, if he has obtained the promise of support from a majority as seems quite probable. I am sorry to hear your recovery is slower than when you were in town. We shall be glad to see you back here. Miss Gundy expects to see Miss McLean today to stay for a day or two.
