Napier August 20 1870 Dear Sir I received your telegram last night about Omarunui and have written about it I read with great pleasure your long speech in the House. It shows a very different state of things to be in existence now to what was the case last year and for many years previous, I hope your health stands all the wear and tear, That is the only point on which you are likely to break down. I will do the best I can about Mangateretere and other matters of that kind. There is but little news to write about from here. You will have heard about our new daily paper the 'Daily Telegraph', that is to appear on the first of Octr. Lord to be editor and Holloway formerly on the Independent, sub-editor, Newton, Kennedy, Sutton, and one or two others directors. They will float into circulation with Govt. supporter cry - They will liven Wood up, I know their plans. I hear you are likely to have a great fight over the Native and defence estimates - You are safe enough here at the next election, If another member had been allowed in any way connected with East Coast and this place Buchanan intended to have tryed. Wilson will have to wait some time - Everything at Taupo is all right and also up the Coast. It is a sad pity te Kooti escaped again he will be caught over reaching himself yet. I remain Yours very truly S. Locke
