English
To His Honor The Superintendant Hawkes Bay. Sir, I have the honor to request you will be good enough to direct a Road to be laid off from the Kiorerau Bride, through my land and Mr. P. Russells to the Rua Taniwha Plains - there has been a Road this way for many years - but Mr. Russell has given orders for its being stopped up - thereby causing inconvenience and annoyance to Travellers and my station - it is the more unjust as Mr. Russell has been draying a quantity of fencing material for months past - and now that his turn is served wishes to stop it up - there is not any outlay required but simply a gateway opening to be left through the fence - By stopping up this road and having to go round by Waipukurau to the Southern end of the Plains would increase the distance many miles - I may remark that I have tried to get Mr. Russell to leave an opening, without my having to trouble your Honor but without avail - so that I have no alternative. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedt. servant Alfred Newman Arlington 4th Feby. 1864
