Marton April 26th 1873 My dear McLean Knowing how busy you are I am sorry to trouble you with a letter but do so at the request of Utaku Potaka and others interested in the Parae Karetu Block? Utuku says it is now some three or four years since they applied to have it passed through the Court and their case has not been yet decided or rather I should say they are not acknowledged by Government, as they owners of it although there are no disputants to their claim - When the case was the second time called, now much more than a year ago, there was according to the Judge some slight error in the map and it was returned to Knowles the Surveyor for correction which was immediately done and the map sent back to the office. Now Utuku who has several times spoken to me about it was with me again today exceedingly he requested me to write to you for him you would see he had his rights etc. he says he has been down to Manawatu and applied twice to the Judge and the answer has been "wait a bit" - You know I am interested in a small piece of it that I am satisfied is all right, but I find today that he has let, or wants to let the bush to some sawyers or someone and is anxious to get his title to the Land and thinks I can do it for him may I ask your assistance and advice how to act. Believe me dear McLean Yours sincerely John Marshall The Honble. Donald McLean
