Auckland. March 31st, 1845. Dear McLean, I have not a line from you by the post but as times are I cannot omit the opportunity of saying that all is peace about the Town and around Auckland, and a large party of the Natives at the North have arisen against Heke with a determination to put him down 230 Soldiers have arrived more are expected and everything assumes a hostile appearance assure the peaceable Natives that they have nothing to fear the Govt. will take care that they shall not be molested impress upon their minds the extreme folly of quarrelling with their only friends and how much Heke has punished himself by obliging the Europeans to leave him. The North Star has arrived so that we have two Men of War here. Let me hear from you by the earliest opportunity. Yours truly, G. Clarke.
