August 19th, 1844. Dear McLean, I have only time to say your letter was this moment put into my hands and the Mail closes in about ten Minutes for New Plymouth - I am much gratified at your succeeding so well though I have not yet heard particulars Henrys letters have not yet reached me, but I was pleased to learn from the Governor that you had a delightful meeting. In reference to the reserve subject I can say nothing until I see the Governor when I will write you fully on this and other subjects. We are going on very quietly at Auckland and soon to have every part of the Island quiet. We must exervise patience and remember ever that the Natives are in their own country we are mere foreigners and why should be presume because we are a great nation. In haste, Yours very truly, George Clarke. D. McLean, Esq.
