A SUCCESSFUL WOMAN JOURNALIST.

Among the many successful Irish journalists on the London- Press no one (says " M.A.P.") has done better work, or is more popular, than Mrs Humphrey — the uni-versally-read "Madge," of "Truth." The daughter of a North of Ireland clergyman, . Miss (iraham came "to London as a mere girl, and 'by her talent and energy soon made for herself an assured position. By starting " Girl's Gossip " in " Truth " nearly twenty years, ago, "Madge" may be regarded as the originator of th£ chatty Ladies' Letter, -which has since found so many imitators. That the writer of this popular column: still contrives to keep it as fresh and readable as ever in spite of the immense amount of other work for which she is responsible, is a striking proof of the wonderful versatility and lightness of touch, which makes every subject she deals with crisp and a pleasure to read. Mrs Humphreys is a many-sided woman, excelling, as much in matters domestic as in matters literary. She is also an excellent musician, and has recently achieved succass as the writer and composer of the patriotic song, "The Union Jack," published by Messrs Ricardi. which is not only enthusiastically received when sung at home by Mr Leo StoTmont, but has made its way across the seas into homes and camps in South Africa, and has won favour with "8.-P." himself, who wrote to Mrs Humphry congratulating ■her upon having produced so stirring and patriotic a composition.
