TAHUNANUI PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual general mooting of the Tahunanui Progressive Association' was held in the school house. Rawhiti street, Tahunanui, last week, Air Henry Baigeut presiding over a largo attendance of members.

The committee's first annual report was adopted. It stated inter alia thatJ eight meetings had been held during theJ past year. The thanks of the Associsyfl tion were due to.the City Council W§

the erection of bathing sheds, seiuHS along the beach, arid other conveni&ices. There wero now at least 110 residences in the township, and it had been suggested that if it did not receive fair treatment at tho hands of the Stoke Road Board a borough be formed. As the swamp had been practically reduced to a dry state by the drain that the syndicate put through it, the.cleaning out of the drain should again accomplish that ■object. There was ©very 'probability of Tahunanui being constituted a separate school district, which would be a great advantage. Systematic tree planting should be carried out, and streets properly formed. Steps had been taken by the City Council to -pre-. vent vehicular traffic on the asphalt way round the Rocks road 3 which was greatly damaged last year. The nuisance of stray cattle on the roads had been brought under the notice of the Road Board. Owners of property should keep their hedges trimmed as they were rot only unsightly but a gse.it inconvenience to traffic "on the footpath. The election of officers resulted as follows : —President, Mr Henry Baigent; vice-presidents, Messrs A. P. Buraes. F. A. Bamford, C. H. Chamberlain, C. R. Fell, J. Houlker, F. H. Richmond, R. B. Jackson, W. Rout, P. St John, and J. A. Wells; hon, treasurer, Mr C. H. Chamberlain ; hop secretary, Mr F. A Bamford; committee, Messrs G. Robbin, J. V. Wells, T. J. Wilson, J. Wilson. J.* F. Balck, F. Fairey, L. R Ward, T. Gardner, R. Stone, F. Giblin, D. G. Thomas, and H. Kidson.

Tho names of fourteen new members were handed into the meeting.

It was pointed out at the meeting that it Ma's not generally known to the public that the trees on. the top end of tho Sands Reserve afford good shelter from the sun.

It was resolved that the committee meat at least once in each month, on a date to be fixed by the secretary.

A vote of thanks to the chair terminated a very successful meeting.
