' ; The second day of the Oam'aru Society's show has not been favoured with fine weather. Apart from the show, this is' matter of considerable rejoicing,' as, owing to the parched state of the grass and country for sometime past, the, farmers have been praying for rain, and ' for about two months water has been very scarce in Oamaru to the householders' expense and inconvenience. The draught stock and shorthorn cattle were,' judged to-day. Some magnificent horses, cattle, and sheep were shown. Their quality was unexceptionalbe. ' In thoroughbreds and hacks Mepsrs William Postlethwaite,,of Christchurch, Charles M'Gregor, i Palmerston, and James Crammond, Timaru, were the' judges, Messrs George Dodson, of Dunedin, and George Pram, Taieri, not attending, though they had promised. The Oam'aru Caledonian Band observed very long intervals, acd thereby created dissatisfaction. The members were paid £40 for their services for the two days, and they played at the rate of about £3 a tune. About 2000 persons were present, beine; doubb the number of the previous day. The weather clearsd during the afternoon,' and the fair sex was well represented. With 114 entries, the draught horses comprised the most numerously represented section of the Show. The prize exhibits displayed immense strength and staying power. Timaru had 595 entries at the recent Show and Oamaru surpassed it by 122, with 717 altogether.
