ARRIVAL OF THE KILLARNEY. " Rather unexpected" may be said of the arrival' of the barqueKill*rney, from NewYoik, which wag reported four miles*; N.E. of the heads yesterday •morning. After towirie out the Cornuvia the tug .ivoputai took her in tow and brought, h^r inside the heads against a. strong S.W. breeze/towing her up against the lebb tide as far as the quarantine grounds under the charge, of Pilot Milne, where she. auchored in readiness for towing toDnnedin, her draught being 19ft. Prior to her •unchorine, the custom* boat ranged alongside, and' after the'erew had been mustered and in-; ipected by the health officer, all being well, she was cleared in by the customs surveyor. The .Killarney is a very handsome iron vessel of 1356 tons register, and Y/as built in 1892 by Messrs R. and J. Evans and Co., of Liverpool. Her dimeujions are: Length, 229 ft Sin; breadth of beam :i7ft-2ia; depth, 22ft. She shows a fine clear dncE space, her poop being 41ft with a gallant forecastle 23ft. .She.is under the command of Captain Hay, -who is to be congratulated on having.made, we believe, the record passage from New York, only 82 days having elapsed from anchor to anchor. She comes into port in beautiful order, reflecting great credit upon her, chief ! officer, Mr Hinds. Her cargo consists of some 2780 ■ tous, 1310 tons of which ig for Dunedin and the ' remainder for Wellington. She left New York at. 7. p.m. on October 27 with a fresh ?*.K. bree2e, which held for three dayg wben it shifted to N.W., blowing fresh, workin* round to N. and N.E., which led her into the •trades. Thete were fresh, and carried her to lat SK. on November 16. Then she had light airs to ..he equator, which was crossed on November 19 in long. 29 W. She met the S.E. trades on the same day. The«« were only moderate, and gave onfrinJut. 18 S., long. 32 W., on the24th, and were followed by N.E. to N.W. winds to the meridian of Greenwich, vhich was crossed on December 8,, in lat. 40 S. Fresh N.W. winds carried her round the Cape of Good Hope on December 12, in lat. 42 S~ 6u the 27th day out. Then she had the winds principally fromN.N.W. to west until December 24, when she met a heavy gale from N.W. to S.W., with very high aea, which helduntil the 2Sth, y&jn;^ it jgjjjerafed.. She had jfresh to I

moderate winds from N.W. to a S.W. to the meridian of Cape Leuwin, which was passed.on January 4, in lafc. 45 5.,: after which she had a spell ot variable winds until passing the island of ' Tasmania on January 11, inlat. 46 5.,-.when a westerly breeza set in, accompanied by thick rainy weather up to the Snares, which were passed without sighting at noon on the 16th inst. J hence she had strong westerly winds up to the Nuggets at 930 a, m. on the 17th, when the breeze died away; had light airs along the coast, and arrived as ; above. No ice or wreckage was seen, and her easting was run down oa the mean parallel of l a t. 44 S. Sl«. spoke the £2 U w VlD£- yeS(!i!:-Novfimbet 21, latl'o.
