AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY.
An adjourned pro re nata meeting of t'Mf: Auckland Presbytery wa3 held in Sag/ Andrew's Church at 11 a.m. Present—Rev. R. F. Macnicol (Acting Modejy rator), and Revs. D. Bruce and George I Brown (clerk) ; and Messrs. Sommerville and Peacock (Elders). The Presbytery was duly constituted by prayer. Introduction. —The Rev. D. Bruce introduced to the Presbytery the Rev. W. Catfrcart, who' had just arrived, but suggested that it would be better for him to reserve the giving of his commission and certificates generally to a full ordinary meeting of the Presbytery. In the meantime he had very much pleasure in introducing him to the Presbytery. The Rev. Mr. Oathcart was received by the Moderator and members with the right hand of fellowship. Resignation op the Rev. Mr. Stewart. —The Rev. Mr. Brown read the resignation of the Rev. Thomas Stewart of his charge at Coromandel, in consequence of his state of health being such at to demand absolute rest,, to gain which, on the advice of his physician, he had resolved to take a lone sea voyage. A medical certificate, to the effect. that the Rev. Mr. Stewart's health was in a very precarious condition, and that, if lif-i was to be maintained, he must at once re jnquish his duties and take a sea voyage, was read to tho Presbytery. A deputation was present from Coromandel, and stated that the members of the congregation were very sorry to part with their pastor, but that, under the circumstances, they entirely acquiesced in the course proposed. — The Rev. D. Bruce moved, "That the Presbytery now agree to receive the resignation of the Eev. Mr. Stewart, and resolve that the pastoral between Mr. Stewart and the congregation at Coromandel be dissolved," expressing deep regret at the same time that, in consequence of the Rev. Mr. Stewart's health, such a step should have become necessary. He felt sure that the feeling on the part of the whole of the memberi; of the Presbytery would be one of sympathy with the Rev. Mr. Stewart, and regret that they would lose his services. All they could do was to commend him to the care and direction of Him whose servant he is, trusting that the course he intends to take may prove beneficial.—The Rev. Mr. Brown seconded the motion, which was carried.—The Clerk was then instructed to direct the first clergyman who might visit the district to intimate the decision of the Presbytery, and to declare tho charge vacant.—The Rev. D. Bruce was appointed Moderator of the session during the vacancy, and the public meeting was closed with the benediction.
