WAIRAU. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Pursuant to a notice inserted in the Nekon Examiner and Colonist newspapers, a public meeting > was held at the Court House, Beaver, on Saturday, the Ist May, to consider the necessity of taking Borne steps to promote education in the Wairau district. Dr. Muller was called to the chair, and the following resolutions were proposed and carried without a dissentient voice :— Proposed by Mr. Etes and seconded by Mr. Gr. Wbatt— " That this meeting considers it highly desirable that some steps should be taken towards promoting education in the district of Wairau." Proposed by Mr. Patebsojt and seconded by Mr. Sopee — "That the chairman be authorized to write I to the Central Board of Education in Nelson, requesting that a portion of the Wairau district, comprising all the said district below the Delta Hills, may be proclaimed as an educational district, under the Nelson Education Act." Proposed by Mr. G-. Wbatt and seconded by Mr. Budge—" That a vote of thanks be given to Mr. Soper for his public spirit in bringing forward the educational question in the Wairau." Proposed by Mr. J. Sinclair and seconded by Mr. PatehSON — " That a copy of the foregoing reso- | lutions be sent to the Examiner and Colonist newßpapers for publication. ESTABLISHMENT OF A LIBRARY IN THE WAIRAU.
