The committee appointed to organise a Fire Brigade, met last evening at the .Superintendent's office. There were present his Honor tlie Superintendent, Messrs. Sharp, Curtis, Sinclair, Kingdon, Edwards, _""isher, Rough, Drew, Hodgson, Irvine, Bentley, Garrard, Flood, Davis, Everett, . Wilkie, Blackett, Merrington, Moore, Richardson. Mr. S. Kingdon in tbe chair. It was resolved, ' ' That the following gentlemen be added to the committee, and that the whole committee do form a temporarj r Fire Brigade : — William Akersten, — Conway. C. Phillips, — Bond. J. Webb, J. Wig_ell, Joseph H: Pitt, T. Thompson, W. Holland, H. Hounsell, M. Lightbaud, J. Henderson, T. Younger, W. Lightfoot, J. Drew, T. B. Louisson, — Cooksey, J. Harley. C. Bird, J. T. Catley, M. Sinclair, John Percy, G. Sinclair, E. Snow, L.. Gully, T. Bird, A. Moore, T. Mills, A. Adams, S. Wakeford, H. Adams. JvWalker. Sinclair, Sharp, Merrington, Blackett, Everett, Davis, Davis, junior, Wilkie, Dr. Irvine, Drew, Hodgson, Elliott, Fisher, ' Kingdon, and Richardson. ■ Mr. T. R. Fisher was appointed Secretary. The following resolutions were passed : — That the Secretary be' requested to write to the secretaries of the fire-brigades of Hokitika, Dunedin, and Wellington, requesting them to iurnish, for the use of the comhiittee, copies o'f the rules and regulations of their respective -brigades. That it is desirable to form a. volunteer ftrebrigade for the city of Nelson, to be called the Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade. That Mr. Blackett be Captain; pro tem., of the Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade. That Mr. E. Everett, Mr. J^ Sharp, Mr. Garrard, and Mr. W. Hodgson be lieutenants, pro tem,, of the Fire Brigade. That the Secretary advertise for persons who may be willing to join the Volunteer Fire -Brigade, to send in their names to him. _ That the Secretary be requested to furnish copies of the proceedings of this meeting to the Press. That his Honor the Superintendent, the Chairman of the Board of Works, and the agents of the various insurance companies, meet and appoint a competent pe_son to authorise, in time of fire, the pulling down of any particular building or buildings, to prevent the further spread of fire. That the insurance companies who have not provided a fire-engine, and who" have agencies in Nelson, be solicited jointly to furnish a good fire-engine and the necessary apparatus, and place the same under the care and management of the Fire Brigade. That the Press be permitted to send Teporters to all future meetings. That the meeting do now adjourn to Wednesday next, at 7 p.m.
