LIVERPOOL TRAIN COLLISION.
SIGNALMAN'S AWFUL MISTAKE.
LONDON, Oct. 16. Iα connection with the Harwich "boat train" calamity in which the train on Wednesday collided with the express for Warrington, standing outside St James's Station, Liverpool, it is reported that a boy in the central signal-box at Liverpool, who frequently attends to the telephone, answered the call on Wednesday while the signalman was busy with the levers.
The signalman, thinking the message was that the first train was clear, pulled the lever, admitting the express to the tunnel, and then on second thoughts asked the boy what the message was.. When told it referred to another train he realised his awful mistake, and set the lights of the tunnel against the express, but he was too late.
