4 — , Oadzow's Triunial Htereopticon Company was welcomed m its opening entertainment last night by an enthusiastio audience, which carried away the. beat of impressions. The views thrown by the stereoptican were highly appreciated, the various subjects being of an interesting "description, and the limelight, mechanioal, and dissolving effeots being very realistic. Among the representations were a series of pictures illustrating the Matabeleland campaign, one fine effect of which was "Majir Wilson's Last Stand," ; a series of thrilling naval and military pictures ; and a fine set of religious views depicting the orueifixion. The vocal and instrumental numbers were of a high order. Mr Oadzow'a splendid tenor robusto, whioh has lost non 3of its early power, was listened to with real pleasure, ! a hearty encore being accorded him on each appearanoe. For "The Queen's Letter" he was vooiferously recalled, and the same is to be said of "The White Squall," which was illustrated with some realistic pictures from the stereopticon. His rendition of ''The Wearin' o' the Green" brought down the house, and he was equally successful m the encore number " Jock o' Hazeldean." Another of his items was "The Death of Nelson." the interest of whioh was enhanced by some specially designed illustrations. Miss May Dudding has a powerful and pleasing soprano, m the use of which she gives evidence of artistic culture. Her singing created a favorable impression, and she won encores with all her numbers. In response to *he recall for " Iv the Chimney Corner " she pleased with another song. Her best effort, perhaps, was "A May Morning" (Denztr), whioh was rendered with much grace. One her re-appear-ance she sang another pretty ballad. The duet rendereJ by Mr Oadzow and Miss Dudding "0 Maritana," was a popular item, and was vociferously re-demanded. Miss Dudding was also recalled for the song " Jessie's Dream," whioh was accompanied with appropriate dis solving effeots. The humorous story " How Bill Adams won the Battle of Waterloo" was well told by Mr Oadzow with the aid of some amusing illustrations. It goes without saying that the pianoforte playing of Mrs Oadzow was thoroughly appreciated. Her well-known grace and brilliancy of execution was evidenced m the overture Festa Napolitana and " Tambour Battant" (Kowalski) and the several accompaniments. The company appear again to-night, when sn entirely new programme will be submitted. Among the views will ba a series illustrating the present crisis m tho Transv at»l, and these will no doubt attraot general interest.
