LARGE GRASS FIRE

I .. BLENHEIM, January 12. ji'A grass fire occurred on Mr. J. Sutherland's property on Wither Hills, a few miles from Blenheim, yesterday Afternoon, and as a result Some seventy ©r eighty acres of native grass and tiis*. |oek was burned. The fire worked Sght up a spur, -.nd the "burn" J.s plainly visible from the town. It apparently started on the western side and burned steadily up the gully, but fcrtunately the wind was from the 3§rong direction to fan the flames out £rf control, and after a thrse hours' Rattle, in which some twenty neighbours lent assistance, the fire was extinguished.
•$J The main damage caused is loss of |eed, but a summer fire invariably causes a setback to pastures, as there i| no moisture to start immediate ref KWthV . .. •. ■■....■■ .
