"NEVER BEATEN!"
THE MOTTO OF THE CANADIANS. A HEAVY CASUALTY LIST. LONDON, 29th April. A special correspondent with the Canadians cables :— " ' Never Beaten ' is the motto of the Canadians, and they can now wear it. It was Canada's battle. The Allied troops are now thinking only of revenge for the bloodiest battle of the bloodiest war in history." The correspondent estimates that the Canadian casualties were between 8000 and 10,000 ; and says it must be remembered that hundreds of men were overcome by gae. Officers who were on the extreme left of the Canadian lines state that the advancing enemy bayoneted scores of unconscious men.
