FOOTBALL. NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. THE ENGLISH TEAM.

The Managing Committee of the New Zealand Kugby Union met on Friday night, Mr. G. Campbell, a Vice-President, in the chair. A letter was read from the New South Wales Union stating that the English team was coming to Australia next year, and asking whether the New Zealand Union desired the Englishmen to visit. Maoriland, and if so what inducements it would offer. The replies of various unions in New Zealand to a circular asking what inducements they offered lo the Englishmen were laid before the meeting. The Otago Union stated tliat if a match was played in Dunedin, it would not look for any share of the gate takings. Canterbury offered to give up all the receipts after deducting expenses. Auckland expressed willingness to give 50 per cent, of the gross takings, guaranteeing that the amount so given up should not be less than £100, and that the expenses of entertaining the visitors should come out of Auckland's share. Wellington offered the net proceeds up to £150. Marl- 1 borough, Manawatu, and Wanganui would give up all the profits of matches played in their districts. In the course of discussion it was stated that the expenses of a New Zealand tour (the Englishmen playing at the four centres only) would be about £400. It was decided " That this Union accepts the terras offered by the various unions. That the Canterbury and Otago Unions be advised of the terms off.e.l*ed s by and accepted from the Wellington and Auckland Unions, and be notified that if they prefer to offer similar terms to either Wellington or Auckland this Union will be prepared to accept them;" also, " That the New South Wales Union be informed that the Zen' Zealand Union is willing to pay the whole of the expenses of the visiting team from and to Australia, and to give the New South Wales Union 50 per cent, of this Union's profits." The motion was seconded by the Secretary, and agreed to. A letter was read from tlie Nelson Union, urging the abolition of wing play, and suggesting that representations on the subject should be made to the English Union. It was decided to reply that, as the annual meeting of delegates had declined to allow the matter to be scut Home, the Committee could not see its way to go behind that decision. The Canterbury Union wrote, suggesting that the New Zealand Union should be asked to frame a rule providing that all appeals against referees' decisions should be lodged not less than 48 hours after the conclusion of a maich. It was decided to ask the Canterbury Union to amplify its request so that it might be laid before the next meeting of delegates. At tlie request of the Wellington Union it was decided to forward to the English Union the correspondence in connection with the dispute in the last Canterbury-Welling-ton match. Mr. L. Ishervvood, of Petone, formerly of the Kia Kaha Club, asked that his disqualification should be removed. It was decided to inform him that he must apply to the Manawatu Union A report from a sub-committee of the Canterbury Uuion, dealing with the appeal lodged by the Wellington Union in connection with the last Wellington-Canter-bury match, was read. It was decided to acknowledge its receipt, to inform the Committee that the Wellington Union did not receive a copy of the referee's statement before lodging the appeal, and also to aquaint the sub-committee with the Wellington Union's reasons for asking that the appeal should be forwarded to the English Eugby Union.
