PAY OF MARRIED MEN
INCREASE OF Is. PER DAY. ] Tho Minister of Defence (the Hon. Jas. Allen) informed a Dominion report- - er yosterday that the Government has , decided to increase tho pay of married men (private and non-commissioned officers) serving with tho Expeditionary j. Force by Is. per day, or 7s. per week, j making Lho pay of married privates 6s. per day. This extra money will not .fl be availablo for soldiers to draw for I their personal expondituro when absent C from New Zealand, but will bo paid to I their wives by way of increased separation allowance. .Air. Allen said that tho /ncreaso had been mado because the Government considered Chat married f men actually neoded moro pay than I singlo men Ho hoped also that the r< increase might havo tho effect of inducing married men to offer their 6or-i vices with less anxiety.
