FIRES.

o HOTEL BURNED TO THE GROUND. AT NGAHAURANGA. lie White Horse Temperance Hotel, an old two-stovoy wooden building, situated on tho Hutl Road, Ngabauranga, was burned to the ground at an early hour this morning. When discovered the fire had a good hold, and ui spite of determined efforts on the part of tho Wellington Moat Export Company's Works' Volunteer Fire Brigade, both the building and the whole'of its contents were totally destroyed. The building was owned by Mr. Fred Footer and occupied by, Mrs. Winter. The hotel,, which contained about twenty looms, was' rebuilt about ten j;ears ago,'and had a wooden frontage with corrugated, iron on the sides and back portion. Tho insurance .on the buiM--ing amounted to £500, but wliether tho contents were insured or not was not available up till tho time of going to press. The origin of the outbreak is a mystery, as the occupants had been absent since early in the afternoon. Tho reflection of tho conflagration illuminated the sky for miles round, and could be. distinctly so/m. from' the City. , OUTBREAK IN MANNERS STREET. A fire-broke out in the workroom of Mrs. Julian Siegel's tailoring establishment at No. 27 Manners-Street, at 8.15 a.m. on Saturday. The prompt action of tho brigade- and: the use of hand chemicals in subduing ,the fire confined it to a small area, and the stock in the shop entirely escaped damage. Tho building is owned fcy Mr. Fred Townsend,' and the shop portion of it occu-pied-by Mrs. Siegel is insured, in the Norwich Union office for £295. There, is a policy on the contents in theiLiverpool, London, and Globe office for £500. A fire was discovered in the "New Zealand Times" premises at 3.20 p.m. yesterday, but the brigade extinguished it before.much damage was done. The outbreak occurred in the printing, department.
