The kaoe. — Punctually at the time set down Mr. Manning got through the preliminary weighing, and shortly after the names of thirty* four riders were exhibited on the telegraph, and the horses were seen leaving the paddock to take their canteis, which having performed they joined the starter at the post, but in consequence of the fractiousness of several of the animals, some time was lost before tbe flag was lowered. At last Mr. M'George got them together, and immediately lowered his flag, Argonaut, next the rails was the first off and made the running, following by The Marquis, Nottingham, Spite and Norroy, the next lot being headed ±>y the Stockwell colt, Neptunus, Vanguard, Buckstone, and Caractacus, the rear division being brought up by Ellangowan, Ensign, and Maharajah, who were left at the post, Ensign having his beaturned when the Bag was lowered. On their faiily entering the Old course tbe farurite went to the front and came on with a clear lead waited upon by Argonaut, Neptunus, Notting, ham, Spite, Buckstone, Caractacus, Zetland the Stockwell colt, aud Sir Alexis, who ran in a cluster at his heels, the rear division at this early period of the race beginning to present a lengthened appearance. Descending the hill, trie Marquis slightly increased his lead, and as he rounded the turu into the straight lie appeared a clear length in advance of Argonaut, Nottingham going on third, with Caractacus, Buckstone, and Neptuuus lying in close attend* ance. Crossing the road Argonaut was ia difficulties, and shortly after gave way, beaten, ■ Caractacus at the same time iv company with Not* tingham, Buckstone, and Mr. Jacksonscoltjoined The Ma-guis, the quartet running nearly in a Hue to the distance, where Nottingham and Neptunus were disposed of, leaving the race •with the three, Caractacus having a slight advantage of. The Marquis, Buckstone being two lengths in the rear. At the stand Ashmall made his effort to get up, but failed, and was beaten' after a fine race, by a neck, a length and a« half separating the second and third. Neptunus was fourth, the Knave fifth, and Zetland sixth, Lord Burleigh, the Clarissa colt, Malek, Nottingham, and Brighton being tbo next lot close together. The others, who were widely spread, were pulling up as they passed the stand, the last lot being Tolurno, Gemse, Ellaogowan, Exchequer, Ace of Clubs, the Typee colt, and Maharajah. Spite, who broke down badly coming down the hill when lying in a good place, was led in some time after, S. : Goater being compelled to dismount to prevent his falling. Bun in 2 mm, 45£ sec.
