THE RESULT OF THE DERBY.

Our cablegrams on Thursday gave us the result of the one hundred and fifth race for Epsom Derby. Lord Falmouth is again to the fore, his colt Harvester, a good public performer as a 2-year-old, having run a dead heat with Major Brace's St. Gatien, of whom we have heard nothing in connecnection with the race. According to our latest cablegrams, Harvester had gone wrongJJ and was not expected to start, but he must have revived like another Hermit. Sir J. Wolloughbly's Queen Adelaide, who was the favorite at the beginning of the week at 3 to 1, was third. Since its institution, the Derby has only once before resulted in a dead neat, namely, in 1828, when, the Duke of Rutland's Cadland won after a dead heat with the Hon E. Petre's The Colonel. The following is a brief record of the performances of the placed horses :—: — St. Gatien is a bay colt by Rotherhill or The Rover — St. Editha. He ran three times as a two-year-old, being successful on ' eaoh occasion, i.e., in the Teddington Two-year-old Plate, of £126, at the Kempton Park meeting ; the John O'Gaunt Plate, of £197, at Manchester ; and the Little John Plate, of £146, at Nottingham. Harvester is a br c by Sterling — Wheatear. He appeared on six occasions as a two-year-old, being successful in two ; namely, the Thirty-sixth Triennial Produce Stakes, of £670, at the First October Meeting at Newmarket, in which he beat K->ight Errant, Kinfauna, and five others, and the Clearwell Stakes, of £927, at Newmarket Second October Meeting, in which, carrying 9st 21b, he beat Condor (Bst 101 b), Borneo (Bst 131 b), Steerforth (Bst 101 b), and Wild Thyme (93t31b). His unsuccessful attempts were in-the Chesterfield Stakes at the Newmarket Summer Meeting, where he ran second to Superba ; in the Richmond Stakes, of £1112, at Goodwood (unplaced to Bushey, Bst 101 b ); the Rons Memorial Stakes (unplaced to Superba), and in the Dewhurst Plate, valuß £1407, in which he was unplaced to the' Adelaide filly. Queen Adelaide ia a chestnntfilly by Hermit— Adelaide. She made her appearance five times as a two-year-old, coming out with a great reputation in the July .Stakes at the Newmarket Summer Meeting, which she won, beating Archduke, Talisman, and five others, the value of the stakes being £1490. At the same meeting she was unplaced to Superba, Harvester, and Talisman, in the Chesterfield Stakes.' In the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood she was also unplaced. In the Middle Park Plate ske was third, carrying 9st, to Busybody, Bat 71b, and Fern Bst 101 b. She finished "her

As a three-year-old * , she was beaten a, month ago, in the "One,, k>> Thousand "by her old antagonist Busybody, * but it must have been a good race, or she would not have remained such a hot favourite for the Derby!— Post.
