The sale is reported of St. Felix, and it is understood tho son of St. Anihroso will be shipped to Melbourne shortly. Tho Racing Conference havo again shelved the question of the appointment of stipendiary stewards. Goodness only knows that they tiro required bad enough. While Cockade, who has been spelling for the past fortnight on account of meeting with an accident, lias resumed work at Eiccarton. Provocation is a slightly better favourite than Gold Thread for- the Winter Cup, for which Eleetrakoff, Boanerges, Nyland and Dreadless are also in request. For the Grand National Steeplechase, Corazon, Antarctic and Dorando are the prime fancies, while for the Grand National Hurdles the favourites are Continuance, Wlutkaweira, The Native, North-East, St. Aidan and Centaur. Varna burst ti blood-vessel during the running of the Thorndon Handicap on Thursday. Hoanga is an unlikely starter at the C. J.C. meeting. I understand he will be taken back to Auckland and later on sent over to Australia. By his win at Trentham on Saturday Electrakoff has incurred a 101b penalty for the Winter Cup, bringing* his poundage up to 11.J5—top weight. Killaloo has been turned out for a long spell. A cable was received by the Melbourne sportsman, Mr S. Green, last week, to the effect that his agent in England had purchased ar. the Newmarket sales the brood mare Temple Hill, a half-sister to Galtee More and Ard Patrick, by Kendal from Morganette. She has a filly foal by Eager, and has been served by Count Schombcrg. Los Angelos will be shipped to Sydney from Lyttelton on Thursday of next week. Genius is also to make the trip, and it is very probable that O'Donnell will takeßonetta, a colt by Bon if orm—C nretta.

' Tho annual report of the Waira rapa Racing Club states that the year commenced with a debit balance of £1010 18s lOd, which has now been reduced to £712 2s (id. New training tracks have been made during the past year, and it is claimed that the Club's course is at present equal to any in the Dominion for training purposes. Several other improvements have also been effected, the principal being the installation of an improved water service. It is proposed, at an early date, to enlarge the lawn enclosure, and tho question of increasing the accommodation for trainers and jockeys will also be considered. By the Act of last session bookmakers are now prohibited from operating on racecourses. The Commission appointed to reduce the number of days' racing* has now completed its report, and a reduction of forty-three days has been made in accordance with the Act. The stewards desire to express their sympathy with those clubs who have been affected. For the coming year it is recommended that a sum not exceeding £4000 be allotted for stakes.

Tho re-hearing of the Julian case has been fixed to take place at Wanganui this day next week. Hoanga won tho Wellington Steeplechase from vnd to end in the smart time of 7min l-sseo, beating the previous best (Rongoa's, in 1900), for Trentham course, by 7 l-ssec. The Auckland 'chaser has now earned the maximum penalty for the Grand National Steeplechase, and will have to carry 11.2. H. Hall's percentage for his two winning rides on Arquebuse at the V. R. C. meeting was £201, and J. N. McGregor's ride on Confide earned him £180. Both jockeys had further sums laid them by tho stable. Antarctic, Whakawcira, Centaur, Eiya, Espartero and Yasmak have arrived at Riccarton to fulfil engagements at tho O.J. O. Grand National meeting. The former is reported to be in splendid condition. The Sir Laddo-Betsy filly Ims joined tiie active brigade at Tauheronikau. H. Fletcher has also Sinapis, Longuor and Splash under his guidance. C. Jenkins has severed his connection with the Porirua stable, for which he lias been retained for a number of years. Next season Jenkins will be a free lance, which will enable- him to accept any engagements offering. I The Mcrriwco horse, Bally Shannon, is again in work at Tauheronikau under T. Ross guidance. He looks well after his holiday, and will be seen out at early spring meetings. Undecided's win at Trentham on Thursday will have the effect of increasing his poundage for the Winter Cup by olb, which now makes Ins weight 9.11. . ' Nyland, who is engaged m the Winter Cup, lias been doing excellent work at Awapuni. Wiirlock, trained at Tauhcrcnikaxi by A. Godfrey, is to bo given, a trial over tho small battens. Perceler has quite, recovered trom the slight mishap that prevented ins putting in an appearance at the winter gathering of the Wellington Racing Horses owned by the Hon. J. D. Orniond havo been very successful in tho Trial Plate at the winter fixtures of tho Wellington Racing Club for, counting Ainsdalc's capture last batnrdav, it has now been won on five occasions by equincs bearing the allcerise of the master ot Karamii, the other annoxcrs of the race having been Mobility, Wirral, Dreadless and Morecambe. . Tho ex Wairarapa-trained Merrie England, Merrie Goer aud Merrie Time are on the sale list. Provocation piloted the Parliamentary Handicap iicld for about four furlongs on Saturday, but then dropped out and finished nearly last. However, the gallop will do him a power of good, and his chance in the Winter Cup is now highly thought of. Beverage, the best of a poor lot of three-year-olds seen out in Australia, has, after it spell, been placed into active work again. Seraphic and Seaton Dale are fast being knocked into shape at Hastings by their mentor, J. Cameron. Tho two-year-old track tit Ellerslie, which has just been completed, and which it is considered is tho best in New Zealand, cost £2100 to construct. Three New Zealand Cup cntrtmts in Tho Rover, Negative and Ainsdale made good at Trcutham on Saturday. The French jockey, G. Stern, who rode Sunstar to victory in tho English Derby, is said to havo received a retainer of £2000, and to havo been, laid £5000 to nothing for a win. Stern has ;i unique distinction in regard to Derby wins, for ho has thrice been on the winner of the French Derby, aud scored in the German. Italian .and Austrian Derbies. Besides these, ho has scored in the English St. Leger, Grand Prix de Paris, French Oaks four times, and second on Jardy in the English Derby in IMS and second' on Louviers two years ago. Sea Eagle is striking out in a convincing fashion at Hastings. She is a very fast filly who, with good fortune on' her side, is sure to be found amongst the winners in the near future. Negative incurred a alb penalty in the WinterjCup by his win at Trentham on Saturday. The brother to Kairoma's weight is now 10.7. Embrocation continues to do pleasing work, and may be given a pipeopener at the Wairarapa Hnnt Club meeting next month, in view of contesting' at the Martou Meeeting. From authentic accounts received from Gisborne, it is quite on tho cards that it will be impossible to get Fort William lit for the New Zealand Cup. It was reported some time ago that Armlet and Miss Mischief were to be retired and mated in the spring with Danube. Last week, however Miss Mischief was down at Riccarton being clipped preparatory to going into active work again. Her legs show no signs of weakness or wear, so she may stand another preparation. Formeden, one of the horses taken over to Sydney by R. J. Mason, is not to be raced there, but is for stile for stud purposes. The Gisborne horses, Dazzling and Goldliuder, have been removed to Hastings, where, in future, they will be prepared by W. Whittaker. R. Gooseman, the Hastings trainer, has three horses under his care, who; c united ages amount to -12 years. The trio are Pushful, Lingerer, and Yasnutk. It will be remembered that the later won the Hawke's Ray Steeplechase recently. Mr "Higluleu's" pair, Boanerges and Nyland, who claim engagement at Riccarton, are to be sent south at the beginning of next week. The p.iir are reported in capital fettle. Dorando is reported to be schooling in an exemplary manner at Riccarton. This bearer of Mr St. J. Buckley's colours is expected to make a bold showing ttt the Riccarton meeting next month.

At tho sale of Mr R. W. Clancy's .-jumpers at Melbourne on the 10th of this month, The Reckoning was knocked down to Mr \Y hi taker, the South Australian owner of Generality, for ij()3gus. The New Zealandbred Pa-kau was passed in at l'JOgus and Contop at loOgns. Trainer E. Cutis must be counted amongst the veteran trainers, but the "daddy" of 'em all is old Ike Freoth, of Tauheronikau, who is just on eighty years of age, aud is still putting the final polish on erratic racehorses, among them being Dogfish, who is in capital trim at present. Messrs W. G. and G. L. Stead have entered their two-year-olds Bon Soil* (Bouiform—Curfew Bell) and Chin Chin (Bouiform— Drought) in the A.J.C. December Stakes, five furlongs.

Electrakoff, who won the Parliamentary Handicap at Wellington on Saturday, runs back to Dundee Katie, whose sire Dundee finished second in Kettledrums' Derby after breaking down in two legs. Dundee was considered one of the best horses of his time, and must havo been so to finish second at Epsom. His breakdown was due to the fact that he was overraced as a two-year-old, although a very big colt. " Electrakoff is inbred to Musket as his sire is a son of Stepniak and his grand-dam was got by Musket. Dundee Katie was a New Zealand Stud Company mare. She produced five foals, and two of them— Katie Ferguson and Katiewere got by Musket. The former produced St.* Katerine, a winner, amongst other races, of the defunct Wanganui Derby, and she in turn is best known as the dam of one of the longest-named eqninos in the Stud Book—Ekaterina Passeropoulo. Welcome Katie produced Leda, Tulloch, Ben Godfrey, St. Elmo, and Electra, the dam of 'Electrakoff.
