Quinlivan, senr., has shifted his quarters from Paluicrston N. to Woodvillo.

" Ilughy " Jowsoy, a returned contingontor, and soa of Major Jowsoy, of Timaru, and who a few years ago was engaged in the Priiico of "Wales stables, under Mr J. Worncr, is coming out as a succssful owner at Tiinaru. Ho has many friends in Mastcrton who will be pleased to hear of his success. Tho first and second horses in tho A.J.C. Derby tako rank as high priced youngsters. Abundanco was sold privately at tho bade end of his two-year-old career for IOOOgs., whilo Strata Florida cost ISOOgs. at auction as a yearling. Nominations for all events, (except the Maiden Plate) of tho Ofcaki Itacing Club, closo on Saturday nest, September 20th, at 8 p.m., with tho Secretary Mr Ilcma B Tβ Ao. Horse-owners from the Wairarapa district should note that the Otaki Telegraph Office closes at 5 p.m.

Tho decision of the llaciug Conference to allow hacks to win £200 in hack events before passing into open company, will give several Wairarapa horses that have won iUSO in hack company, and havo been competing in open events, an opportunity of again figuring in secondclass company until thoir collective winnings amount to £200. Tigress is to bo mated withßirkcnhead this season. Tigress is in foal to Mcrriwee, and is the property of Sir "William Eusscll.

The Ofcaki meeting is likely to draw good nominations from tho Wairarapa for its Spring Meeting, to be held on Wednesday and Thursday, October Bfch and 9th.

During his trip to Wanganui to assist in the Marton fixture, Mr F. Rhodes purchased Itoseplot, who goes into the stable of J. Gril'iiths at Gisbome.

It transpires that another Australianbred sire is to como to New Zealand with San Fran, recently purchased by Mr "W. J. Douglas for 65Ogs. This is Cardigan, who is being sent to Auckland by the Hon. H. Mossman.

It seems a peculiar coincidence that the two horses I gave information about in my last notes, in answer to a correspondent, should both have won races at tho recent A.J.C. fixture. I refer to Great Scot and Strata Florida.

George Price has been engaged to ride for the Messrs Nathan at the Avondalc fixture.

During the week tho stablo mates, Grey Seaton and Lavalettc, were backed for the Avonclalo double—Cup arid Flying Stakes. If the New Zealand Cup is won by a three-year-old this season, the full sister to Nonette, might pop up. I refer to La Valeric. She started once as a two-year-old, running second to Spalpeen in the Onslow Handicap at tho A.lt.C. autumn meeting. The Marlborough Racing Club's Spring Meeting is announced to be held on the Riverlands' Racecourse, on October 22nd and 23rd, and tho fixture should be liberally patronised by Wairarapa horse owners. The stakes on the first day total 285 soys. and on the second day 255 soys.

The committee of the Pahiatua Racing Club has decided to include four open events at its next meeting. The total stakes amount to £700 up to dato. A judges-box is to be erected.

Nonetto looks to be a " good thing " for the President's Handicap (seven furlongs), to bo run on tho second day at Takapuna. With only Solo, Camille, Maroon and Gold and Maro to dispose of, the crack may after all get a race before tho New Zealand Cup. The stake being only 100 3ovs no penalty will attach to the race.

Tho programme for tho Masterton Trotting Club's meeting, to be hold in Masterton on Thursday, October IGth, is published elsewhere Eight events are clown for contest, the principal being tho Trotting Club's Handicap of 45 soys. (saddle or harness) two miles, and the Stewards' Handicap, of 30 soys., two miles. The amount of stakes to be given total 180 soys. Nominations closo with the Secretary, Mr T. Duncan, on Saturday, September 27th, and handicaps will bo declared on October 4th. A fair meeting, should the weather bo favourable, should result.

Sceptre succeeded in her task in tho St. Leger at Doncaster on Wednesday last, and the 10,000 guineas daughter of Persimmon and Ornament therefore now takes rank with Formosa as a quadruple classic stakes winner, sho having previously annexed the Two Thousand Guineas, One Thousand Guineas, and Oaks. Tho mishap that befell Ard Patrick after fulfilling his Ascot engagements was viewed in so serious a light when tho last mail left England that the chance of the son of St. Florian fulfilling his engagement at Doncaster was considered hopeless, and we may, I think, safely assume that tho half-brother to Gatfee Moro was not amongst tho starters. Tho absence of Ard Patrick from the St. Loger field no doubt mado tho task much easier for Sceptre, but while that may be so, it can bo said for tho littlo daughter of Porsimmon that she has displayed grit that is rarely met with in a filly. It can be safely said that Sceptre has been one of the most hard-worked classic stake-winners that has ever figured on the turf. Early in tho present season sho was required to tackle the Lincolnshire Handicap, and those who saw her go under in that race to St. Maclou must havo been found donbting her ability to cope with tho colts, for she was beaten at Lincoln under fist 121b. However, Sceptre wont on to Newmarket and won the Two Thousand Guineas and Ono Thousand Guineas. At Epsom sho put her largo army of followers in the hole by failing to gain a situation in the Derby, but two days later made some amends by capturing tho oaks. Sent over to Franco, sho made a bid for tho Grand Prix do Paris, and was well beaten in tho attempt. Re-shippod across the Channel, she was required to tackle three races at the Ascot meeting, and won tho centre of tho bunch. Going on to Goodwood, sho was pulled out for a race there, and ran a dead-heat for first honours. Scoptro must be a filly of rare constitution, or sho could never havo weathered such a severe campaign, and put tho coping stone to a romarkablo throo-yoar-okl record by capturing tho St, Lcger at Doncastor.
