WARDEN'S REPORT.
Mr Warden Price, in his report upon the Okarita District for the month of May, writes as follows : — " Nothing worthy of report has occurred during the month. The two large waterraces under construction — viz., the Alliance Company's race and the Okarita Gold Mining Company's race — are not yet completed ; and until they are, and the beaches so .supplied with water, no improvement in mining matters can be expected. With the exception of two men, who have been some time out at the back of the Three-mile beach, I have not heard of any prospecting parties during the month. I estimate the number of the population in this district at 391, distributed as follows :— Town of Okarita, 75 ; North Beach, 40 ; Three-mile Beach, 45 ; Five-mile Beach, 170 ; Waiho Beach, 4 ; Sandfly Beach, 20 ; Gillespie's Beach, 17; Hunt's Beach, 14; Bruce Bay, 6. Two Court cases came on for hearing during the month.''
