OURSELVES.

This morning, for the first time, the "Chronicle" is printed on the Cossar Patent Flat Bed Web Machine, which recently came to hand from the makers, Messrs. Payne and Sons, of Otley, Yorkshire. This machine was specially selected by our Mr. J. A. Young, after a careful and practical inspection of all the best and latest machines suitable for printing a paper like the "Chronicle," which the best known builders of the Old Country had to offer. It ?s, indeed, the first machine of the kind perfected. At the time of Mr. Young's visit to Messrs. Payne and Co/s works the firm's experts were experimenting with a rough, but finished, model, and Mr. Young purposely remained at Otley in order to see it put to the pra*.'[tical test. This, we neec' scarcely say, proved thoroughly satisfactory, ar.d the promise has apparently been more than justified in the handsome machine which I'otv stands in the temporary room Avhich —pending more extensive alterations to tb.3 premises—has been erected for its accommodation. For the information of cur leaders, we may say that the new machine prints-from-a contiil--. • uous roll of paper !at the'rate of; 5000 ; : an hour, cuts the papers, ipids them, > counts them, and puts them -out i» \ parcels of twenty-firs • l'er.dy, for the; - runners and delivery'agents. This latest • enterprise on the "part of the manage'- ' ment represents a heavy outlay of capital, but this is moi-e than compensated by the knowledge that it will be appreciated by our readers and advertisersy and by the fact that the possession of such a thoroughly up-to-date machine will expedite the publication and ma- ! prove the appearance of the paper.
