The Auckland - Wellington Rugby Interprovincial football match for the Ranfurly Shield was played here t.:-day in the presence of about 12,000 people. The spectators included Lord Plunket, Sir Joseph Ward, several Cabinet Ministers, and members of both Houses, ar.d the Mayor of Auckland. Auckland won a most sensational game by 24 points to 3. Up to the last quarter of an hour the game was either team's, and then | Wellington suddenly collapsed, and Auckland put on 19 points in 15 minutes. In the first spell Bater scored for Auckland, and R. Magee converted. Alexander scored 8n unconverted try for Wellington, also before the spell dosed, • The second spell was fast and exciting f°r the first half-hour, and then completely routed Wellington. Murray scored a try, which Magee converted. Magee kicked a goal from a mark.
