[When last year Lord Rosebery won the ! Derby by the aid of Lade a he established a j record. Never before had the race been i won by a horse the property of an English ■ Premier. But if last year Lord Rosebery f created a record, thg farther success of the i Premier is absolutely uniqUeitt t-b.9 history 'of racing, To win the Derby is the sole ' aim of hundreds of wealthy men, and in nine cases of ten their efforts are fruitless. Only three times previously hai the race been won twice in succession by the same owner. Therefore hy winning two successive Derbies run during the period of his Premiership, Lord Rosebery has accomplished a feat which has never been done bafore and which may possibly never happen again. Sir Vißto, who is a son of the defunct Barcaldine, only started twice as a two-year-old. When half-fit he finished unplaced in the Woodcoto Stakes, but his next effort was more successful, as he appro* printed the Imperial (Kempton Park Great Breeders' Produce) Stakes, of 4309 soys, run over a mile. An accident prevented him from fulfilling his engagement in the Middlepark Plate, and he then retired into winter quarters. This se&son he was beaten by Kirkconnel and Laveno in the Two Thousand Guineas, and by Kirkconnel's etablo companion, The Owl, and Solaro iv the Newmarket Stakes.
