Blades) 0 Betting. — When a representative muster was made prior to racing the Derby came in for notion, and odds of 11 to 8 were betted on Slieve Gallion, whilst 6 to 1 and then 5 to 1 was taken Galvani. Orby figured at 100 to 14,. with Bezonian at 10 to 1 and Wool Winder at 100 to 8. This was the business which transpired until the interval preceding the big event, when batting took a settled form. Then the odds on Slieve Gallion rose to 6 to 4 and 13 to 8 on, whilst with his advance- Galvani receded to 7 to 1. Bezonian, after being backed well ait 10' s, settled down third favourite at 9 to 1, but Orby, after figuring- at 10 to 1, was on offer at 100 to 9 ,at flagfall, and the latter price waa taken Wool Winder. Earleton was fairly well supported at 40 to 1, and All Black met with support at 50 to 1, but at like rate Galleot had but few friends. After 200 k> 1 had been betted John Bull only half that rate was forthcoming. The piece betting will fully explain inself, Galvani, Orby, Bezonian, Wool Winder, and Earlston being well backed to gain a situation. Although" Earieton- gave a little trouble, an admirable start was effected at the first attempt* and John Bull at once showed in

front, followed by the favourite, 'Bezondan, ] Galvani, Orby, Wool Winder, and Eairlsrton ' in that order, All Black being last. The first quarter of a mile was run at a clinking pace, and at the end of it Sliev« Gallion hod headed John Bull, their nearest followers being E&rlsUm, Bezonian, and Wool Winder in thai order. . On reappearing in sight the favourite had drawn a good two lengths clear of Bezonian, the latter being followed by Gulvajxi, AH Black, Orby, and Earlston, Wool "Winder being now last, with the exception of ifdhn Bull, who had dropped right away. As- they began the descent to Tottenham Corner Bezondan closed with. Slieve Gallion, and Orby became third, these three being well clear of the remainder, who were headed by Galvani and Galleot. Slieve Gttllion ran a trifle wide as they turned into the straight, andwas headed by Qrby, Bezonian and Wool Winder now being respectively third and fourth, the la.gt-no.med! of wihom was rapidly making up his lost ground. Coming down the hill from Tattenham Coiner the favourite waa evidently in difficulties, and Orby took a lesuoj of fully a couple of lenjrtihs, whilst Wool Winder drew up very rapidly. Once at tie bottom of the hill Slieve Gatlion came again, but could not sustain the effort, and Orby won cleverly by a couple of lengths from Wool Winder, who beat Slieve Galtion by half a length for second place. About two lengths away Bezonian was fourth, a>nd then came Galleot fifth, Galvani sixth, Earlston seventh, John Bull being a> long way last. Time by Benson's chronograph, 2min 44sec.
