THE ENGLISH DERBY. LONDON, June 5. The race for the Derby resulted as follows : — DERBY STAKES, of 6600e0v&, by subscription of 60govs each ; second at least 400sovb and third at least 200sovs. One mile and a-half. Mr R. Croker's eh c Orby, by Orm-e — Rhoda. B, 9.0 1 Colonel E. W. Baird's b c Woolwinder, by MartagTion — St. WLndeline, 9.0 . . . . 2 Captain Greeks blk c Slieve Gallion, by Galhnule— Reclusion, 9.0 3 Orby ran only twice as a two-year-old, being placed third on each occasion, once at Leopardstown and once at the Curra-gh. His victory will no doubt mean a big win for the Americans. Woolwinder also ran twice last year, and got a win in the Ahngton Plate at Newmarket. Slieve G-alhon was favcurite for thus Derby on performances.

1 Nine horses started for the Derby. It was 1 won by two lengths ; half a length between second and third. Time, 2min 44*ec. Betting at the start: 13 to 8 on Slieve Gallion; 100 to 9 Orby and Wcolwinder. June 6. The King, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Connaught, and Prince Christian were present at Epsom to see the Derby run. J. Reiff rode the winner, whose opportunity came in making the turn for home. It is considered by sporting men that the behaviour of Slieve Gallion in swerving under pressure and cutting across the oourse, thus losing second place, j : shows that he does not stay, and that probab'.y a mile is as far as he cares to travel. THE OAKS. IyONDON, June 7. Joel's b f Gla.ss Doll, by Isinglass—Fota, 9.0 1 , Loodemia. - 2 Lord Dunraven's br f Lady Hasty, by Dcs- 1 mond— Molly Morgan, 9 0 8 Glass Doll ran five times ltst season, and won only the Sherwood Forest Niirsexy Plate at Nottingham. Loodemia is a filly that had I no name when " Ruff " was printed.
