I A moderate pace was set by Regret for a quarter , of a mile, when ha broke into a good gallop from ! Sir Visto and The Lombard, with Persimmon next. These positions underwent little change until the corner of the Plantation, when Persimmon and St. Frnsquin took close order with Regret and Sir Visto, and all the others dropped away beaten, except Troon, who was steadily drawing up on the leader. In descending ( the hill Canuou began to ride the favourite, and j as they commenced the descent Persimmon aud St. Frusquin shot past him, at the same time that Troon began to overhaul Sir Visto. For a few strides Persimmon now held the load, and then resigned on the brow of the hill to St. Frusquin, simultaneous with which Regret made a forward movement again, his advance being shared by Troon, to tho detriment of Sir Visto. For the remainder of tbe journey the race was of a very exciting character, and with St. Frusouin stoutly holding his own he won by half a length from Peraimmon, who held a similar advantage over Regret.
