The flag fell without a failure, and in the most leisurely manner Ladas showed the way for a few strides, when he was pulled behind Matchbox, Hornbeam, and Bullingdon, wi*h Clwyd and Galloping Dick in the rear. After travelling so for a quarter of a mile Bullingdon became second to his stable companion, Reminder and Hornbeam separating them from Ladas and Clwyd, with Galloping Dick still last. At the mile post Bullingdon joined .Matchbox, and with a little improvement in the pace they ran head and head from Hornbeam, Ladas, and Reminder to the top of the hill, the other two more than once changing places. In commencing the descent Matchbox, in spite of the outside berth, quickly parted company from- Bullingdon, and was followed round Tattenham Corner by Hornbeam and Ladas, with Reminder, Bullingdon, .and Clwyd almost abreast, and Galloping Dick now tailed off. Soon after crossing tbe road Ladas passed Hornbeam and swept up to the quarters of Matchbox in such grand style half-way up the straight that he looked for a moment like having all his own way. As sooj, however, as Matchbox was called upon in earnest he answered so well that Ladas had fci be ridden in pursuit until reaching the bell. At that point the favourite was on level terms with Matchbox, and then, as on the previous occasion of their antagonism, he forged ahead and won a Rood and exciting race by a length and a-half. Reminder, who gave Hornbeam the go-by belo v the distance, was third, at an interval of b'x lengths, with Clwyd fifth. Bullingdon sixth, and Galloping Dick last. Time, 2min 45 4-ssec. Value of the Btakes, £5450.
