Two or three failures preceded the fall of the flag to a good start, in which St. Jude", in the interest of his stable companion, raced;to the front, followed by Kilmarnock, of whom the latter in the first quarter of a mile broke a blood-vessel and rapidly retired. Second place was then taken by Isinglass from Ravensbury, Raebnrn, Perigord, and Son of a Gun, the last three, except Kilmarnock, being Watch Tower, Royal Harry, and Harbinger. With the completion of half the journey Stf. Jude had shot his bolt, and Royal Harry raced up level with Isinglass. He as quickly dropped back again, and Isinglass then settled down in command from Ravensbury, the pair being just clear at the Bushes of Raeburn, Perigord, Sou of a Gun, and Harbinger in the order named. As they ascended the hill Perigord and Son of a Gun hoisted signals of distress, and Raoburn and Harbinger were bsing hard ridden into the Abingdon mile bottom. This enabled Isinglass and Ravensbury to draw well away, and although the favourite obtained no rest, he always had the trump card in hand, and won cleverly by three-parts of a length. Raelurn was four lengths off third, Harbinger fourth, Perigord fifth, Watch Tower sixth, Son of a Gun seventh, and Sfc. Jude and Kilmarnock tailed off. Time, lmin 42fsec. Valuo of stakes, £4250.

In descending the hill Silene for a few strides managed to split the Falmouth House pair, but she collapsed in the Abington Mile Bottom, and for the last 200 yards was dropping back to Tressure at every stride. la the meantime Dame President was tiring almost to a walk, and with Sitfleuse creeping up, she won on the post by a head ; a length and a-half dividing second and third. Well as he had won his race at the entrance to the straight, the additional quarter of a mile proved too far for Red Eagle, and in the last hundred yards he succumbed to Dare Devil by three-parts of a length, with Ragimunde beaten not quite so far for second place.
