Except that Sprightly half jumped round and lost a lot of start, the line was very compact for a I'ouplo of hundred yards, when Coromandel and Jodel 'drew out "in front of Orontes, who soon passed them. They ran so to the T.Y.C. winning post, where Orontes still led from Jodel, lonia, and La Flccho. Before reaching the Bushes, Pensioner, who was now going great guns, assumed the command, followed over bhe brow of the hill by La Fleche, Oronbes, and Jodel. In descending the hill Oronbes began bo swerve, and having crossod Breach and Jodel, the finish then scorned to rest between Pensioner and La Fleche, although Jodel struggled on again and passed Orontes as they lefb the Abingdon Mile Bottom. At the same time La Fleche had collared Pensioner, and answering with fire and resolution to the calls of Barrett, she gradually drew away in climbing the hill and won in gallant style by a length and a-half, while Jodel was beaten half as far for second place. Orontes was close up fourth, Enniskillen fifth, Breach sixth, Macready seventh, Trapezoid eighth, Simonian ninth, lonia benth, Brandy elevenbh, Acrobat twelfth, Patrick Blue thirteenth, Pilot fourteenth, Lady Hermit fifteenth, and Euclid sixteenth, with Topthorn, Petard, Rusticus, and Sprightly the last fout.
