St. Angelo jumped off in front of May Duke, Son of a Gun, and Sir Hugo, with Conifer, Orvieto, and La Fleche on their heels, and Mark Price and Llanthony the whippers in. The first •quarter of a mile saw Son of a Gun pushed to the head of affairs, followed by Conifer, and they went on clear of May Duke, Orvieto, and St. Angelo, the next pair being La Fleche and Sir Hugo, while Llanthony had dropped astern. As they entered the straight the two leaders ran wide, and St. Angelo joined them on the rails, with Orvieto going on fourth in the centre of the coarse from La Fleche and Llauthony, while May Duke stood stai and gave way to Xl Diablo. Soon afterwamh Son of a Gun and Conifer compounded.and St. Angelo was left iii # command from Orvieto, La Fleche, and Llanthony almost abreast, with £1 Diablo just behind. At the commencement of the deep ground St. Angelo was closely pressed for Orviefo and U Fleche,,iHid wfceuafew stride?

At the same time Xl Diablo floundered, and with Orvieto now fairly collared by La Fleche, she came clean away in the last 200 yds and won in easy and gallant style by three lengths. Llanthony struggled on, and only lost second money to Orvieto by a length, with Xl Diablo a head behind fourth.
