Mina ut once proceeded to mnko use of her light weight and cut out this work from Bey Jones, Penelope, and Dare Devil. From the six-furlong post to tho bottom turn it was impossible to distinguish a single colour owing to the bad light, and when glasses were of use a

little more than a quarter of a mile from home the complexion of the race had entirely changed The first flight consisted of Balmoral, St. Cyr, Enniskillen, Mervyn, and The Hudson. Far worse than the declaration of a pound overweight for Enniskillen was the hampering treatment he received from The Hudson, who had, to all appearances, 100 yds from home brought off another handicap surprise. As he hung to the right so did Balmoral come away from the rails to the left, and they had fairly bumped opposite the band stand before Balmoral forged ahead again to win by a neck. The general opiuion was that more blame could be laid to the charge of Mullen than Woodburn, and an objection on the ground of bumping was promptly overruled. The iirst to show in advance was Cheno Royal, who was followed by Fra Angelico and Diarbek. They 'ran without much change for about six furlongs, when Diarbek took the lead. Soon afterwards M. Delamarre's colt was in difficulties, and it seemed as if the race would result in the victory of one of Baron Schickler's candidates. Before they entered the straight, however, Rueil came into the front, attended by Courlis. A short distance further Fra Angelico began to show signals of distress, and then Courlis went to the fore, closely followed by Rueil. The race now became of the most exciting description, and when they were below the stands Courlis looked all over the winner, but Rueil, making his effort, drew up to him, and obtaining the advantage won somewhat easily by a neck ; three lengths divided second and third.
