As the flag dropped The Deemster, Dorcas Gouverneur, and showed «in ad* vanca of Common, Old Boots, and Orion for a couple of hundred yards, when Doroas drew to the head of affairs from Common, Goavetneur, and Martenhurst. Then came Old Boots, Outtlestone, FitzSimon, and Peter Flower, with Orion and The Deemster next, and t

Simonian bringing up the rear under the whip, These positions were maintained to the milepost, when Gouverneur assumed the command, and was followed through tbe fcuzea by Dorcas, Common, and Martenhurst.' Daylight continued to separate these from Old Boots, who was [in turn clear of FitzSimon, Peter Flower, and Outtlestone, while Simonian con- j tinued to drop further behind Orion' and The Deemster. At the top of the bill the order of the leading quintet was unchanged, and when Peter Flower and Orion became their immediate attendants half-way down FitzSimon was losing ground. In rounding Tattenham Corner Common, who was stretching out in grand style, pulled his way into second berth, and crossed the road at thp heels of Gouverneur, with Doroas and Martjf^hurst going on third and fourth from Orion and Cuttlestone on the top ground, The Deemster at the same time creeping jap in thi awake of the leaders, A quarter of a mile frt^tn home Common joined Gouverneur, and instantly getting his head in front they went clean away from the others, of whom Martenhurst passed Dorcas simultaneously with the resignation of Orion and Old Boots to Guttleßtono and The Deemster. As far as first and Hecond are concerned there is little more to say, and without being asked a question Common steadily added to his lead, and won with the greatest of ease by a couple of lengths. Opposite the stand Marf enhurat was challenged right and left by Outtlestone and The Deemster for the place money, and finishing a bad third he had a head advantage of Cuttleatone, with The Deemster also beaten another head. Half a dozen lengths off ,Orioh >aa sixth, Old Boots seventh, and Doroas eighth ; at a still bigger gap followed FitzSimon and Peter Flower, with Simonian last throughout. In the straight Bolam, Conachar, Mactenhurst, and St. Kilda formed the front rank. Benvenuto and Flodden Field then shot up, followed by Kirkstall and Friar Lubin, Inside tbe distance Ordinance began to overhaul the leaders, of whom Benvenuto was forging ahead, and hp won a good race by half a length from St. Kilda, the favourite losing second money by three parts of a length. CoratorDhine and Sabra jumped off in front from St. Kilda, Lady Primrose, Haute Saone, and Mimi, and they ran thus for 300 yds. The lead was then taken at a moderate pacs by St. Kilda from Sabra and Mimi, and these settled down clear of Oorstorphine, Lady Primrose, and Haute Saone until well beyond the mile post. Here Sabra drew up to the girths of St. Kilda,, whom she slightly headed on the top of the hill, and at the same time Corstorphine took cloBB order with Mimi, leaving Lady Primrose in the rear. Although Sabra cleared St. Kilda round Tatfcenharp Corner, both were in trouble at the road, and with Mimi sweeping to the head of affairs she came on from Oorstorphine, Haute Saone, and Lady Primrose. All doubts were set at rest a quarter of a mile from home, as Mimi Bbook her stable companion off without an effort and won in a canter by fcur lengths. Inside the distance Lady Primrose and Haute Saone closed with Corafcorphine, and , tbe places bung in the balance until a few strides from the chair, when Lord Rosebery's filly got the best of it again and beat Lady Primrose by half a length; a neck between third and fourth.
