The start waß not by any means a good one, as Alicante and Pioneer got very badly off, whilst Enthusiast waa a good deal favoured. Once off, however, Fagan drove Chitabob to the front, but the favourite w»8 always in it, and although he did not attempt thus early to go up to the leader, he lay always well placed third or fourth, and it was evident the leader would not be allowed to Bteal a march. Indeed, a quarter of a mile from home it waa plain that Donovan would win, for he began to stride up to Chitabob. Two hundred and fifty yards from home he got to the Yorkshireman'a quarters, and Fagan pat on more pressure. Yet still Barrett held his own, and again Donovan began to gain. So at about a couple of hundred yards from home Fagan began to get uneasy on his horse and the end was apparent, for Donovan at once' shot to the front and increasing his lead as he went won by two lengths. Alicante, who had been badly interfered with by Enthusiast come quarter of a mile from home, got through the beat6n horses and was catching Chitabob fast at last. She was, however, beaten a coupla of lengths for second money. Seabreeze and Pioneer were fourth and fifth, some six lengths behind the French filly. The winner's time was limn 39 l-sseo. Chitabob's owner got £1500 for hla second place, as he was the nominator .as well bb the owner of Ohitabob ; and the same remark applies to Alicante, bo that M, Ephrussi got a monkey.
