Bismarck, in the centre of the course, rushed to the front, and half a mile from home was still holding a clear lead, with Cactus, Veracity, and ! Danbydale in close attendance, a slight interval separating these from the remainder of ;the field. At the Bushes Bismarok still led, followed by Cactus, Veracity, and Belle Mahone ; and to this quartette the contest was now practically reduced ; but in the Abingdon Dip Bismarck began to hold out signals of distress, ami in making the ascent out of the Abingdon Bottom he gave way to Cactus and Veracity, whilst Bolle Mahone drew up to the quarters of Bismarck. An exciting set-bo resulted between Cactus and Veracity, but the latter always had slightly the best of the' struggle, and, amidst great excitement, secured the verdict by ahead ; two' lengths off Bismarck was third, defeating Belle Mahone by about a head. The lead then remained with Enthusiast, his fol lowers being Australia aud Donovan into the Abingdon Mile, when Barrett set the lattet troing, and he won in a canter from Enthusiast by half a length ; two lengths between seconc and third.
