The flag fell to a good start, Grecian Bend on the extreme right making play, with a slight lead of Fulmen on her lpft, with Prudence in the centre close up, cldar of Glint and Jack o' Lantern, while on the left came LydrHngt'on, Yale Tide, with Maiden Belle on the left. In this order they ran for half the journey, when Grecian Bend retired, and Jack o1o 1 Lantern took up the running, attended by Prudence, Financier, Maiden Belle, and Lyddington, with Fulmen close up on the right. At the distance Jack o' Lantern and Prudence were beaten, leaving Maiden Belle in front of Fulmen, Financier, and Saucy Lass until 100 yds from home, where Fulmen challenged Maidon Belle, and heading her in a few strides drew out, and won easily by a length and a-balf. Saucy Lass, three lengths off, was third, Financier; fourth, Grecian Bend fifth, Jack o' Lantern sixth, Prudence seventh, Franciscan eighth, Glint ninth, Lyddington tenth, Assiduity eleventh, Admiral Benbow twelfth, Coriander next, and Yule Tide last. At the distance Leap Year was in trouble, end Poem took up the running, challenged, by Donovan and Gazelle, 'with Madame* Galvani rapidly closing with the leaders, and Donovan, getting the best of the struggle v 100 yds from home, won a bit cleverly by two lengths from Poem. Madame Galvani, who caught Gazelle , on the post, was third, a head , behind Poem, just in front of Gazelle, fourth.
